January 2015 Night Passage by Robert Parker. This book was an experiment (and a good experiment). We discovered the Jesse Stone TV-movies with Tom Seleck on Netflix over the holidays and really liked them. So we bought the first of the books, Night Passage to see if we liked them too. I was not disappointed.

The main character, Jesse Stone, is a divorced ex-baseball player and Marine who was fired as a homicide detective on the LAPD. He takes a job as police chief in a small town with a lot brewing under the surface: mob activity, hit men, and a local militia.

The TV adaptation of the movie simplifies the plot a bit, but follows the basic story. I really liked this book and I'll take the next installment along on my next business trip.
