February 2008 Marley and Me. Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog. by John Grogan. This is not the usual kind of book we read in a history book club, but in February we were participating in the ALLen Reads program sponsored by the Allen Public Library. This program encouraged everyone in Allen to read the same book, and the libray book clubs were asked to participate.

That being said, I really did like this book. The reviews of Marley and Me were like "I laughed. I cried. I loved this book." For anyone who has a dog, or had a dog as a kid, and loved that dog, this book taps into some universal emotions and feeling we shared with that pet. We had a great discussion on the book which went back and forth from talking about parts of the book that we liked, to relating our own "dog stories" with each other.

For me, this book was a nice change of pace. It's not the kind of book I normally read, so it disproves the old saying that old dogs can't learn new tricks.
