King Solomon's Mines
by H. Rider Haggard. This book was recommended to me by my daughter (thanks Emilie!) with the comment "You are going to
love this book, Dad." She was right.
The book is an adventure story, written in 1885 as a first hand account of the big game hunter Allan Quatermain's adventure with two companions, Sir Henry Curtis and Captain John Good, in search of Curtis's brother who went lost in search of the legendary diamond mines of King Solomon. Their road takes them across desserts and mountains, to encounters with wild animals, isolated African tribes and witch doctors, into the middle of a civil war, and finally into an underground labyrinth.
This was a really good read.
