May 2006 selection... The Gifts of the Jews. How a Group of Desert Nomads Changed the Way Everyone Thinks and Feels. by Thomas Cahill. This is the second in Cahill's Hinges of History series, and my personal favorite. Its a good book for Easter or Passover. Cahill gives one of the best descriptions of the Exodus you will find outside of the Book of Exodus. Excellent contrast of the religions of the ancient world with the innovations of Judaism, the turning point at Sinai, and the parts of our Western culture that have trickled down from the Jews. Here's a link to Cahill's website to learn more about the author and the Hinges of History series. Back to reading list |
