Diamonds Are Forever
by Ian Fleming. This is the fourth of the 12 "Bond, James Bond" books.
In this book, Bond's assignment is to infiltrate and shut down a diamond smuggling operation from Africa, through England, to America. The story is set almost entirely in America (upstate NY and Las Vegas) with almost all American players, except Bond of course. Raymond Chandler (author of The Big Sleep among others) commented how the book "rings true to an American." He also said, "the remarkable thing about this book is that it was written by an Englishman."
Fleming is just a great writer. His books are tense and move fast. This one is a good one.
