Coal Black Horse
by Robert Ohmstead. This is the second book by this author that I've read. It's a very good story and, like
Far Bright Star the characters match the landscape and the dire situation.
The story is about a 14 year old boy , Robie Childs, sent off by his mother in 1863 to find his father and bring him home from the war. Robie acquires the coal black horse early in his journey which brings to the bloody fields following the Battle of Gettysburg.
I did not find this book as compelling as Far Bright Star, but it was a very good book.
