Spring Semester 2013 Ministry in the Church. A Historical and Pastoral Approach by Paul Bernier. This was one of the three textbooks used for the Spring 2013 Church History class at the University of Dallas. The other textbooks were two volumes by Justo Gonzalez The Story of Christianity.

This book is unlike any Church History book I've ever read. Bernier traces the history of the Church from the point of view of the development of the miniserial functions of the Church: bishops, priest, deacons. Also, the author develops a history of how the laity interact with and are effected (or disseffectected in some cases) by the hierarchy.

This was another excellent source for the class, and one of the better books I have read about the Church in the Twentieth Century, includingthe impact and theology of the Second Vatican Council.
