The Rule of Benedict for Beginners. Spirituality for Daily Life.
by Will Derkse. If there is one book I can recommend for someone to understand the nature of Benedictine spirituality, and why being a Benedictine oblate is such an important part of my life, it is this book.
The author explains the basic Benedictine principles of stabilitas, obiedentia, and conversatio morum in a way that makes sense to those of us wishing to live by the Rule outside the monastery. They translate into faithfulness to your vocation (father, husband, etc), active listening, and continuous self-improvement.
This is a profound little book. Just 88 pages.
