Thomas Friedman is a Jewish American journalist who was stationed in Beirut in the early 1980s during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. He went to Jerusalem in the late 1980's during the first Palestinian Intafada. From Beirut to Jerusalem is a winner of the National Book Award.
