Readable History Book Club

The idea for the bookclub was hatched by Harmon Avera and Dave Catlett in Boise, Idaho in late 2002. We started meeting in February 2003 at the Barnes and Noble Booksellers in Boise. You can read more about it at Readable History in Boise, Idaho

By "readable history", we mean books about history that can be read by busy people in roughly one month. Books are chosen that can be read in a reasonable amount of time, that balance detail with a broad perspective on the time period, and that offer a wide variety of historical topics and periods. Military, social, and political history books are discussed.

The general, though not rigorously adhered to but nonetheless worth mentioning, book selection guidelines are are

1. Topic of history (military, social, political) or biography
2. Page length around 200-250 pages.
3. Good balance of perspective and detail
